Everything Hyundai Kona Drivers Need to Know About Charging an EV

Introduced in 2019, the Hyundai Kona electric vehicle has proved to be one of the most impressive and well-received electric vehicle offerings on the market today. The Kona was first introduced in 2018 as a gas-powered, compact crossover, with the all-electric car model becoming available a year later. At the time of its introduction, the Kona electric vehicle had the longest range of all available non-Tesla electric vehicles. Both the electric and non-electric versions of the Kona were announced as the winners of the 2019 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, the first crossover subcompact SUV to win the award.

Hyundai Kona Charging & Range

The Hyundai Kona’s drivetrain features a 64 kWh battery pack with an EPA-estimated all-electric driving range of 258 miles. The Hyundai Kona charging time is determined by the vehicle’s 7 kW level 2 charge rate, and Kona drivers can take advantage of 240-volt level 2 stations. Charging to full capacity using the Kona’s included level 1 EV charger will take a sluggish 50 hours. With a powerful level 2 EV charging station like the JuiceBox 32 or 40, the Hyundai Kona charging time can be approximately 10 hours, and drivers can wake up every morning with sufficient range for the day.

The Kona can also charge at 50 kW via a DC fast charger, and can charge to 80% capacity in around 75 minutes via DC charging.
