Kia Niro Charger

Everything Kia Niro Drivers Need to Know About Charging an EV

The Kia Niro was certainly not the most highly anticipated electric vehicle release (particularly when compared to some other high-profile model launches); however, its substantial range and elegant practicality have earned widespread approval from drivers and critics alike. The Niro electric car is built on the same platform that powers the fan-favorite Hyundai Kona EV, but the Niro has a longer wheelbase. In addition to a fully electric car model, the Niro is also available as a plug-in hybrid with an all-electric range of 26 miles.

Kia Niro Charging & Range

The Niro EV features a 64.0-kWh battery with fast charging at a rate of 7.4 kW on a level 2 EV charger and up to 7.7 kW using a DC fast charger, enabling the Niro to charge to 80% in less than an hour. The Niro EV has an EPA-estimated range of 239 miles. Using the included level 1 charger, the Niro can charge from empty to 100% capacity in around 60 hours. The charging time is drastically reduced with the use of a more powerful level 2 EV charging station, like the JuiceBox 32 or 40. With a level 2 charger, the Niro can be fully charged in around 9 hours.

The Kia Niro PHEV is a good option for drivers who want to drive cleaner but require the additional range of a gas-powered engine. The plug-in hybrid Niro can charge using the same charging station as the fully electric model. Using a level 1 charger, it takes around six hours to fully replenish the 26-mile range. With a level 2 charger, the Kia Niro PHEV can fully charge in 2.5 hours, enabling drivers to charge at home during the night or at work during the day and have enough juice to make it to work or back home on purely battery power.
