Charging Tesla Model 3

Everything Tesla Model 3 drivers need to know about charging an electric vehicle

The Model 3 is Tesla’s least expensive car. In 2020, the Model 3 starts at the accessible price of $40,000 for the Standard Range Plus version, which grants 250 miles of range on a single charge. The 322-mile Long Range Model 3 begins at $49,000, while the Performance version, which zips to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds, starts just below $57,000.

An all-electric car with all of the Tesla Model 3’s capabilities was not previously available in the $40,000 price range. The roomy four-door, five-seat sedan is roughly the size of a BMW 3-Series or Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The rapid acceleration and smooth ride provided by the Model 3 matches the performance of those German luxury models. At the same time, the Model 3 provides a more spacious interior.

Tesla Model 3 Charging & Range

The 2020 Tesla Model 3 offers between 250 and 322 miles of range, depending on the version you choose. The most affordable Standard Range Plus version, with a battery pack providing about 75 kilowatt-hours of storage, offers 250 miles of range on a single charge. The Long Range and Performance versions, each with a battery pack storing about 100 kilowatt-hours, have a 322-mile range.

The Standard Range Plus Model 3 has an impressive efficiency level of 141 miles-per-gallon equivalent, making it one of the most efficient cars on the road.

Tesla is continually changing the model names and improves the specs of vehicles via over-the-air updates. In 2019, the Long Range versions were rated at 310 miles, and the Standard Range Plus model was rated by the EPA at 240 miles.

The majority of EV charging takes place at home. Using a capable 48-amp home charger like the JuiceBox 48, Model 3 drivers can take full advantage of its 11.5-kW onboard charger. This allows Tesla owners to add about 30 to 35 miles of range in an hour. Home charging with this level 2 Tesla EV charger allows for faster charging from the convenience of your own home and offers more rapid charging options than just a public charging station or Tesla supercharger. A complete charging session from nearly empty to full for the Standard Range Plus version takes about 7 hours.

Level 3 DC fast charging: Tesla Supercharger

The average commute for Americans is less than 40 miles. So a Tesla Model 3 is enough for what drivers need for local and regional travel. But what about long road trips and the Tesla Model 3 Charge time? That’s where the Tesla Supercharger public charging network is so useful. The company maintains a supercharger network of nearly 2,000 Supercharger station locations strategically placed to allow travel along efficient highway routes. Tesla owners pull up to an EV charging station, plug in, and add about 170 miles of range in just 30 minutes. The charging speed will get even faster with Tesla's V3 supercharger version that started to roll out in 2019 and is continuing to get deployed across North America.

Tesla Model 3 Customer JuiceBox Reviews

  • Great, high power unit for Model 3 and other EVs
I use this unit to charge a Leaf and Tesla Model 3 AWD. I’ve been using it for more than two years and have found it to be reliable and easy to use with the app. I also love to export my kWh usage so I can compare EV and home usage against solar generation.

  • Great charger and quality is impressive
My JuiceBox has been amazing so far and saves me money every night from 11 PM to 5 AM when I get the cheapest charging rate from my power company. And the best part is it’s forward-compatible with any other EV I buy. The app is amazing in this unit, connecting to WiFi and giving you great control from your iPhone. The support I have received after the sale from the manufacturer has been gold-standard-level care. They really go above and beyond to help you answer any questions and make sure your JuiceBox works as you had hoped.
