Chevy Models and EV Chargers

Chevy Electric Vehicle Lineup

Chevrolet has long been one of the most innovative automakers in the electric vehicle space, with multiple of the all-time best-selling EV models. In 2011, Chevy introduced the Volt plug-in hybrid, which would go on to win the title of 2011 North American Car of the Year. Until 2019, the Volt was the best-selling electric vehicle in history, only to be recently passed by the Tesla Model 3. In 2013, Chevrolet released its first fully electric offering: the Chevy Spark. With a range of 82 miles, the Spark offered a significantly longer, all-electric range than the PHEV Volt, laying the foundation for the latest Chevy EV model: the Bolt.

Below is a rundown of every available Chevy electric vehicle with a link to the best Chevy electric car charger options for each model.

Chevy Battery Electric Models

Chevy Spark

The Chevy Spark was the first fully electric BEV introduced by Chevrolet in 2013 and with a respectable 82 mile range, offered more than enough battery capacity for a majority of day to day driving. The Spark sports a 19kwh battery and a 3.3 kW onboard charger that can recharge on a level 1 120v charger in 13.5 hours and 5.5 hours using a level 2 charging station. The Spark was produced until 2016, at which point it gave way to the new Chevy EV flagship model, the Chevy Bolt.

The Chevy Bolt EV is the latest fully electric vehicle to be released by Chevy, with an EPA rated for 259 miles per charge. Beginning production in late 2016, the Bolt was refreshed in 2020 and has developed a cult following, as one of the few legitimate challengers to Tesla’s Model 3 in regards to range and price point. The 2020 Bolt is set to receive a thorough refresh for the 2021 model year. The Bolt EV can accept up to 7.7 kW while charging on a level 2 charging station. With the Bolt electric vehicle’s large 60 kWh battery, it’s important to have a powerful level 2 Chevy charging station to replenish the battery pack.

Chevy Plug-In Hybrid Models

Chevy Volt

Introduced in 2011, the Chevy Volt was Chevrolet's first step into the world of Plug-In Electric vehicles. The Volt Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle can operate purely on electric power, with an all electric range of 53 miles on the most recent models. After the battery is depleted, the Volt will switch to standard hybrid driving granting EV drivers increased flexibility and range. The original Volt had a max charge rate of 3.3 kW which was increased to 3.6 kW and later 7.2 kW for later models. The Chevy Volt ended production in 2019 and is widely regarded as one of the most important American-made vehicles in the evolution of the EV.

With a versatile line of home charging solutions, there is a JuiceBox for every electric Chevy model. The JuiceBox 32 can comfortably accommodate the smaller battery of the Chevy Volt Plug-In Hybrid and max out the vehicle’s charge rate. With the Bolt and Spark large battery it is important to have a powerful level 2 charging station at home for all of your residential charging needs. Using a level 2 charger like the Juicebox 40, the Bolt has a charging session of around 8.5 hours to charge fully. By comparison, it would take over 48 hours of continuous charging to charge the battery powered vehicle with a level 1 EV charging cable.

Chevy Charging Time and Range

For level 1 and level 2 charging, all Chevy EV models use the industry-standard SAE J1772 connector in North America. Since all Chevrolet EVs have different size batteries, charging times vary.
